Scripture Reading:
Genesis 17
Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision
 1When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty;[a] walk before me, and be(A) blameless, 2that I may make my covenant between me and you, and(B) may multiply you greatly." 3Then Abram(C) fell on his face. And God said to him, 4"Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be(D) the father of a multitude of nations. 5No longer shall your name be called Abram,[b] but(E)your name shall be Abraham,[c](F) for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make(G) you into nations, and(H)kings shall come from you. 7And I will(I) establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant,(J) to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 8And(K) I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and(L) I will be their God." 9And God said to Abraham, "As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a(M)sign of the covenant between me and you. 12He who is(N) eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or(O) bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, 13both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. 14Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."
Isaac’s Birth Promised
 15And God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah[d] shall be her name. 16I will bless her, and moreover, I will(P) give[e] you a son by her. I will bless her, and(Q) she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her." 17Then Abraham(R) fell on his face(S) and laughed and said to himself, "Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?" 18And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you!" 19God said, "No, but(T) Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name(U) Isaac.[f] I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.20As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and(V) multiply him greatly. He(W) shall father twelve princes, and(X) I will make him into a great nation. 21But(Y) I will establish my covenant with Isaac,(Z) whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year." 22When he had finished talking with him,(AA) God went up from Abraham. 23Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him. 24Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised. 27And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

Acts 2:14-47

Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost
 14But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.15For these people are not drunk, as you suppose,(A) since it is only the third hour of the day.[a] 16But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
 17(B) "'And in the last days it shall be, God declares,(C) that I will pour out my Spirit(D) on all flesh,and your sons and(E) your daughters shall prophesy,
   and your young men shall see visions,
   and your old men shall dream dreams;
18even on my male servants[b] and female servants
   in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and(F) they shall prophesy.
19And I will show wonders in the heavens above
   and signs on the earth below,
   blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20(G) the sun shall be turned to darkness
   and the moon to blood,
   before(H) the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
21And it shall come to pass that(I) everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.' 22"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth,(J) a man attested to you by God(K)with(L) mighty works and wonders and signs that(M) God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23this Jesus,(N) delivered up according to(O) the definite plan and(P)foreknowledge of God,(Q) you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24(R) God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because(S) it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25For David says concerning him,

   (T) "'I saw the Lord always before me,
   for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
26therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
   my flesh also will dwell(U) in hope.
27For you will not abandon my soul to(V) Hades,
   (W) or let your(X) Holy One(Y) see corruption.
28You have made known to me the paths of life;
   you will make me full of gladness with your presence.'
 29"Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about(Z) the patriarch David(AA) that he both died and(AB) was buried, and(AC) his tomb is with us to this day. 30(AD) Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that(AE) God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that(AF) he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32This Jesus(AG) God raised up,(AH) and of that we all are witnesses. 33(AI) Being therefore(AJ)exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from(AK) the Father(AL) the promise of the Holy Spirit,(AM) he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.34For(AN) David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,

   (AO) "'The Lord said to my Lord,Sit at my right hand,
 35until I make your enemies your footstool.'
 36Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that(AP) God has made him(AQ)both Lord and Christ, this Jesus(AR) whom you crucified."
 37Now when(AS) they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers,(AT) what shall we do?" 38And Peter said to them,(AU) "Repent and(AV) be baptized every one of you(AW) in the name of Jesus Christ(AX) for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive(AY) the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For(AZ) the promise is for you and(BA) for your children and for all(BB) who are far off, everyone(BC) whom the Lord our God calls to himself." 40And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying,(BD) "Save yourselves from this(BE) crooked generation." 41So those who received his word were baptized, and(BF) there were added that day about three thousand souls.
The Fellowship of the Believers
 42And(BG) they devoted themselves to the apostles’(BH) teaching and the(BI) fellowship, to(BJ) the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43And awe[c] came upon every soul, and(BK) many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44And all who believed were together and(BL) had all things in common.45And(BM) they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46And day by day,(BN) attending the temple(BO) together and(BP) breaking bread in their homes, they received their food(BQ) with glad and generous hearts, 47praising God and(BR) having favor with all the people. And the Lord(BS) added to their number(BT) day by day those who(BU) were being saved.
